Division II Rochester Advances to US Open Cup Semi-Final
The Rochester Raging Rhinos, defending A-League soccer champions (Division II), upset the
Dallas Burn of Major League Soccer 2-1 in double overtime on Wednesday night to advance to
the U.S. Open Cup semi-finals. The Rhinos, who have an all-time record of 4-3 against MLS
clubs in U.S. Open Cup play, advanced to the semi-finals for the second time in four
seasons.
Michael Kirmse, who entered the match in the 73rd minute, scored the "golden goal" in the 110th minute of the match for Rochester in front 10,730 fans. Rhinos midfielder Mauro Biello notched the first goal of the match in the 71st minute, while Dallas forward Jason Kreis scored the Burns lone goal in the 85 minute.
Rochester had previously beaten the New York Freedoms in the second round of Americas oldest soccer tournament, then upset the defending MLS champion Chicago Fire at Frontier Field 1-0 last July 14.
