BURN SALVAGES 1-1 TIE WITH NEW ENGLAND Scoring Woes Continue as Dallas Outshoots Opposition, 22-5 DALLAS - The Dallas Burn scored with just seconds remaining in the match to salvage a 1-1 tie with the New England Revolution before 21,343 fans tonight at the Cotton Bowl. Seventeen-year-old Burn forward Eddie Johnson, a second-half substitute, netted his first career goal just as injury time was ending in the match. Referee Rich Grady signaled an extra five minutes of injury time at the end of the match and the Burn needed every last second. With just around 20 seconds remaining in that five-minute injury period, midfielder Paul Broome brought the ball down the left flank and sent a cross into the box. The ball found Ariel Graziani at the back post. Graziani knocked the ball inside the six-yard box to Johnson, who was able to poke the ball into the net. "I was just kind of in the right place at the
right time," said Johnson. "I went in to try to just make a
difference." Prior to Johnson's late heroics, the Burn, which outshot the Revolution 22-5, had plenty of quality opportunities to even the score. In the 63rd minute, Johnson hit a blistering shot from the left side of the penalty box that was saved by diving Revs 'keeper Jose Hernandez. In the 82nd minute, Jason Kreis hit a shot that went off the post directly to Ariel Graziani. Graziani, with the goal open in front of him, muffed the shot, sending it wide of the goal.. The Burn had a glorious chance to win the game in overtime as Ryan Suarez was sprung down the left flank. With only the goalkeeper to beat, Suarez brought the ball into the box and sent a shot wide of the goal, past a sprawling Fernandez, for the final 1-1 margin. The Burn returns to action this Saturday, July 7 as they travel to Columbus to face the Crew in a 3:00 p.m. contest televised nationally on ESPN
