DALLAS ROUTS COLORADO, 6-3 Burn Sets Team Record for Most Goals in a Game as Winning Streak Hits Three Games DENVER, Colo. - The Dallas Burn set a team record for goals in a game with six as they extended their winning streak to three games with a 6-3 victory over the Colorado Rapids tonight at Mile High Stadium. With the victory, the Burn (6-5-1, 19 points) equaled the best start in team history as they also had 19 points through 12 games in 1999. Both teams came out on fire in the first half as six goals were scored the opening stanza, with an incredible five of those goals coming in an 11-minute span. Dallas opened the scoring in the 6th minute as Ryan Suarez received a ball on the right flank with plenty of open field ahead of him. Suarez brought the ball into the right side of the box and sent a low, driven ball across the goalmouth toward Ariel Graziani at the back post. Before the ball could reach Graziani, however, Rapids defender Scott Vermillion redirected the cross into the net for an own goal. Colorado equalized in the 25th minute after Richard Farrer fouled Rapids defender Lance Key at the left side of the box. On the ensuing free kick, Jason Moore found Marcelo Balboa at the far post with Balboa's header beating Burn 'keeper Matt Jordan just inside the post. The Rapids took a 2-1 lead three minutes later as Ryan Suarez's clearance went to Imad Baba at the right of the box. Baba one-timed a cross to Raul Diaz Arce, who volleyed the ball into the goal from eight yards out. One minute later, the Burn equalized on a quick reaction by Suarez. Joselito Vaca's shot from 20 yards out was parried away by Rapids 'keeper Adin Brown. The rebound went directly to Suarez to the right of the goal and Suarez was able to get his head on the ball, knocking it into the empty net. The Burn went ahead 3-2 in the 35th minute with Richard Farrer sending a ball to Vaca just inside the penalty box. Vaca took the ball to the left side of the six-yard box and roofed the ball to the upper right corner of the goal for his first career goal with the Burn. One minute later, Diaz Arce tallied again for Colorado to even the score at three. Ross Paule received a pass at the top of the six-yard box and had his shot snuffed by a diving Jordan. The rebound went directly to Diaz Arce who buried the ball into the empty net for a 3-3 score at the half. The Burn went ahead 4-3 in the 56th minute on yet another defensive miscue by the Rapids defense. An attempted clearance by Chris Martinez was lofted into the center of the box. Rapids defender Lance Key tried to head the ball back to his 'keeper but ended up putting the ball into his own net. Dallas finally got a two-goal cushion in the 83rd minute on a beautifully executed give-and-go. Paul Broome, who had entered the game just two minutes earlier, sent a ball to Pareja at the top of the box. Pareja back-heeled the ball to Broome as he broke into the box, freeing Broome one-on-one towards goal. Broome calmly slotted the ball into the lower-right corner of the goal for his first tally of the season. Dallas rounded out the scoring in the 90th minute with Aleksey Korol blasting a right-footer into the upper-right corner of the goal from 22-yards out. The Burn returns to the Cotton Bowl next Saturday, June 16 at 7:00 p.m. vs. the Columbus Crew in a game televised on ESPN2.
