BURN NETS ROAD VICTORY WITH 1-0 WIN OVER SAN JOSE SAN JOSE - The Dallas Burn avoided its first 0-2 start in team history and Head Coach Mike Jeffries recorded his first MLS victory as the Burn downed San Jose 1-0 tonight at Spartan Stadium. Burn forward Bobby Rhine, a starter in place of the injured Jason Kreis, tallied the game's lone goal. The Burn, who set a team record last season with 11 road losses and started the season with an 11-game road winless streak, registered a victory in their first road game of the season. Dallas tallied the game-winner in the 19th minute on a clinical finish by Bobby Rhine. Chad Deering received a throw in along the right touch-line and fed Oscar Pareja at the edge of the box. Pareja flipped the ball over his head and turned and found Rhine just inside the box. Rhine then sent a blistering right-footer to the lower-left corner of the goal. The Burn just missed going ahead 2-0 in the 42nd minute. Antonio Martinez beat 'Quakes defender Scott Bower down the right flank and sent a low, driven ball across the face of the goal. The cross had just a little too much pace on it, however, and it eluded Pareja and Ariel Graziani, with neither player able to reach the ball for the easy tap-in. San Jose's best chance came in stoppage time of the first half on a corner kick. Scott Bower sent the corner into the box where a diving Ronald Cerritos headed the ball just by the left post. The Burn returns to action on Saturday, April 21 when they face the Chicago Fire at 3:00 p.m. at the Cotton Bowl in a game televised nationally on Telemundo.
