11/19/99 BURN FORWARD JASON KREIS NAMED 1999 HONDA MOST VALUABLE PLAYER DALLAS - Major League Soccer announced today that Burn forward Jason Kreis has been named the 1999 Honda Most Valuable Player, making him the first American-born player to garner the award. The league MVP award, given to the player whose presence made the biggest impact on his team's overall play during the regular season, is voted on by members of the media, MLS team coaching staffs and team general managers.
11/18/99 MLS Commissioner Don Garber announced bold changes affecting MLS' rules of competition for the 2000. No shootout, 2 5 min OT's instead. Referee will keep time using international methond. MLS will also realign its conferences from the current Eastern and Western Conferences to a three-conference system consisting of a West, Central, and Eastern Division. The season will begin in mid-March and conclude MLS Cup in early- to mid-October.  TV Hilites- 19 consecutive weeks of MLS regular season matches on Saturdays; twelve weekly, one-hour highlight shows on Monday at 11:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
11/12/99 Roster announced for final U.S.National Team match of 1999  — U.S. National Team Head Coach Bruce Arena has called upon nine European-based players and seven MLS players to round out the 16-man roster he named today for the USA's final match of the year, a Nov. 17 encounter with Morocco in the ancient city of Marrekech. Arena's roster was announced earlier today, and included Jason Kreis of the Dallas Burn.
11/12/99 ROSTER IS SET FOR U.S. PRO-40'S FIVE-GAME TOUR OF PORTUGAL - Eighteen Project-40 members and two guest players will cross the Atlantic Ocean as U.S. Pro-40 heads to Portugal for a five-game tour of Portuguese First Division reserve teams in an effort to gain international exposure for Major League Soccer's young professionals, MLS Vice President of Player Personnel and Managing Director of Project-40 Todd Durbin announced today.  P-40 Goalkeeper Scott Vallow is the only Burn player on the roster.
11/11/99 Finalists revealed for MLS Most Valuable Player.  Dallas' Jason Kreis and D.C.'s Marco Etcheverry and Jaime Moreno Battle for MVP honors.  Dallas Burn forward Jason Kreis, the 1999 Budweiser Scoring Champion, joins D.C. United icons Marco Etcheverry and Jaime Moreno as finalists for the 1999 Honda Most Valuable Player Award.
11/10/99 THREE ADDITIONAL YEAR-END AWARD FINALISTS REVEALED --  Goal Keeper of the Year Candidates: Dallas Burn's Matt Jordan played just 45 minutes in 1998, finished second in the league in saves (133) and first in catch/punches (124) to lead the Burn to 17 of the team's club-high 19 wins.  Tampa Bay Mutiny's Scott Garlick and Los Angeles Galaxy's Kevin Hartman are also candidates.   All Sport Coach of the Year Candidates: Dallas Head Coach David Dir, the lone charter MLS coach still with his original team, led the Burn to a 19-13 record in 1999, the club's best showing in four seasons. Dir finished the year with 67 all-time wins, the most in league history and one ahead of D.C.United's Thomas Rongen.  Rongen and Los Angeles Galaxy's Sigi Schmid are the other two candidates.
11/8/99 Major League Soccer unveiled today the three finalists for the Snickers Fair Play, Referee of the Year and the Executive Awards.   The winners of the 1999 MLS Executive Awards will be announced on Friday, November 19, in Boston, Mass., at the league's annual MLS Cup Media Luncheon.  Dallas Burn employee Paul Mott has been nomiated for Operations Executive of the Year.   R. Dennis Lee - D.C. United and Eddie Rockwell - Columbus Crew are the other two candidates.
11/8/99 BURN PLAYOFF GAME IN LOS ANGELES TO BE TELEVISED LIVE ON FOX SPORTS NET SOUTHWEST -- Game 3 of Western Conference Finals This Thursday, November 11 at 9:30 p.m. DALLAS - The Dallas Burn and Fox Sports Net Southwest announced today that Game 3 of the Western Conference Championship series between the Burn and the Los Angeles Galaxy will be televised live on Fox Sports Net Southwest. The game will be this Thursday, November 11 at 9:30 p.m. (CST) at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
10/28/99 BURN TO FACE LOS ANGELES IN GAME 1 OF WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS THIS SUNDAY AT THE ROSE BOWL DALLAS - The Dallas Burn will face the Los Angeles Galaxy in Game 1of the Western Conference Finals this Sunday at 4:30 p.m. (CT) at the Rose Bowl in a game which will be televised nationally on espn2. Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals will be on Sunday, November 7 at 2:00 p.m. (CT) at the Cotton Bowl, live on ESPN.  Game 3, if necessary, will be on Thursday, November 11 at 9:30 p.m. (CT) at the Rose Bowl. Tickets for Game 2 may be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets (214-373-8000), by calling the Burn ticket office (214-979-0303) or at the Burn Pro Shop located at 2602 McKinney Avenue.
10/25/99 WEDNESDAY'S PLAYOFF GAME TO BE TELEVISED LIVE ON ESPN.  Major League Soccer announced yesterday that Wednesday's game will be televised live on ESPN. As a result, the game time has been changed from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (CT).
10/23/99 POLLARD SUFFERS SEASON-ENDING INJURY.  Burn defender Brandon Pollard, who had played every minute in 32 of Dallas' 33 games this season, suffered a broken right fibula on a tackle by the Fire's Dema Kovalenko in the 75th minute of last Saturday's match. Pollardwill miss the remainder of the playoffs.
10/15/99 DALLAS - The Dallas Burn announced today that Game 2 of their Western Conference semifinal playoff series against Chicago will be televised live on KXTX - Channel 39. The game will be next Saturday, October 23 at 7:00 at Soldier Field. Saturday's game will also be the first local over-the-air broadcast of a Burn game in the team's four-yearhistory.
10/11/99 JASON KREIS SCORES TO BECOME BUDWEISER SCORING CHAMPION AND MLS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
NEW YORK (Monday, October 11, 1999) - Dallas forward Jason Kreis scored the game-winning goal, his 18th strike of the season, to lead the Burn to a 2-1victory over the Eastern Conference third-place Tampa Bay Mutiny at Raymond James Stadium last night. Kreis' final tally of the regular season powered the four-year striker to earn MLS' Budweiser Scoring Championship (18 goals, 15 assist, 51 points). For his performance, Kreis was voted the MLS Player of the Week for the week ending October 10, 1999.

10/5/99 GRAZIANI, RODRIGUEZ OUT FOR FINAL GAME AT TAMPA BAY -- The Burn will be without two of their regular starters this Sunday at Tampa Bay as both Ariel Graziani and Jorge Rodriguez will be with their respective national teams. Rodriguez will represent El Salvador in Gold Cup qualifying in Los Angeles October 6-10. Graziani will be with the Ecuador National Team for a friendly vs. Uruguay on October 10. Both players will be back for the first game of the playoffs.
10/4/99 Jason Kreis was voted the MLS Player of the Week for the week ending October 3, 1999. The Dallas forward scored two goals (his 16th and 17th of the year) and added one assist (his 15th) at the Cotton Bowl yesterday to lead the Burn to a come-from-behind, 4-3 win over the visiting Los Angeles Galaxy. Kreis' five-point performance enabled him to overtake D.C. United's Roy Lassiter as the league leader in the Budweiser Scoring race and become the first player to tally both 15 goals and 15 assists in one season.
10/3/99 The Dallas Burn's Jason Kreis became the first 15-15 player in the history of Major League Soccer Sunday afternoon, registering a five-point performance in a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy. Kreis recorded two goals and an assist to set new standards in offensive performance in the MLS.
9/29/99 BURN PLAYOFF TICKETS TO GO ON SALE.   THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 1.  DALLAS - The Dallas Burn announced today that tickets for the first round of their playoff series will go on sale this Friday, October 1 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets may be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets (214-373-8000), by calling the Burn ticket office (214-979-0303) or at the Burn Pro Shop located at 2602 McKinney Avenue. Tickets for the playoffs range from $10-$21.  The first round of the playoffs is slated to begin the weekend of October 16. Game two would be held the following weekend with game three, if necessary, taking place on Wednesday, October 27.
9/13/99 New Alan I. Rothenberg trophy unveiled Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber today unveiled the newly-designed Alan I. Rothenberg Championship Trophy and announced that tickets go on sale Tuesday, September 14 at 9:00 AM for MLS Cup '99. The league's Championship game will take place on November 21 at Foxboro Stadium, marking the return of the league's title match to the site of the inaugural MLS Cup in 1996.
9/3/99 Dallas goalkeeper Matt Jordan, who led the Burn to a 4-1 record last month, was named the MLS Player of the Month for August by the Professional Soccer Writers Association (PSRA). Jordan is the second Dallas player to win MLS player of the Month honors in 1999. Burn forward Jason Kreis won the award in June.
8/31/99 KREIS SIGNS NEW LONG-TERM DEAL -- Major League Soccer and the Dallas Burn announced Tuesday that they have signed forward Jason Kreis to a long-term contract. Kreis, who currently leads MLS in scoring with 41 points and has recently been called up the U.S. National Team for next week's match vs. Jamaica, was playing under a contract that expired at the end of this season. Under the new contract, Kreis will be a part of the Burn through the end of the 2001season. The contract includes multiple options, which can extend the contract well beyond the 2002 season.
8/30/99 KREIS GETS NATIONAL TEAM CALL-UP -- Burn forward Jason Kreis, the league leader in points with 41, has been named to Bruce Arena's 18-man roster for the U.S. National Team's September 8 match at Jamaica. Kreis has seven caps with the national side but has not represented his country since a February 1, 1997, match vs. China. The USA-Jamaica match in Kingston will be part of a unique doubleheader, featuring the two nations' Under-17 National Teams in the preliminary match at 4:30 p.m. (CT) with the senior teams playing at 6:30 p.m. (CT).
8/22/99 Ariel Graziani was named the Major League Soccer Player of the Week. -- Dallas forward Ariel Graziani recorded two goals and added one assist to lead his new team to back-to-back wins against Western Conference rivals Colorado and Chicago last week. For his efforts, the Ecuadorian striker was named Major League Soccer's Player of the Week for the week ending August 22, 1999.
8/15/99 The Dallas Burn announced today that they have traded defensive midfielder Leonel Alvarez and future considerations to the New England Revolution for Ecuadorian striker Ariel Graziani. Graziani, who was allocated to New England on June 26th of this year, has played in 3 games for the Revolution this season.
8/11/99 Major League Soccer Vice President of Player Personnel and Director of Project-40 Todd Durbin announced today the club assignments of U.S. Pro-40 goalkeepers Scott Vallow (Dallas Burn), Matt Nyman (Tampa Bay Mutiny) and U.S. Under-17 midfielder DaMarcus Beasley (Los Angeles Galaxy). A Tri-Captain at Bowling Green in 1998 Vallow was selected to the All-MAC (First Team), All-Ohio (First Team), MAC Player of the Year Runner-Up, All-Region (Mideast) (First Team), and NSCAA All-American (Third Team) with a record of 10-7-1, with 75 saves and a 0.71 goals against average in the regular season.
7/27/99 The A-League Rochester Rhinos will host the Dallas Burn for the Quarterfinals of the US Open Cup. The game will be August 11th in Rochester.
7/26/99 Depending on who you believe Dundee United of the Scottish Premier League tried (didn't try) to sign Chad Deering and/or Brian Maiseneauve for 300,000 pounds.
7/13/99 Dallas Burn forward Jason Kreis, who exploded for two goals and two assists in Saturday's 5-0 win over Kansas City, has been named the Major League Soccer Player of the Week. Kreis becomes only the second player in league history to garner the award four times in a season after the Galaxy's Cobi Jones was honored a league-record five times in 1998.
7/10/99 Major League Soccer announced that Burn forward Jason Kreis and goalkeeper Matt Jordan were named as reserves on the 1999 Western Conference All-Star Team. The pair were selected by Colorado Rapids Head Coach Glenn Myernick, who will coach the Western Conference in the All-Star Game.
7/8/99 Burn forward Jason Kreis named MLS Player of the Month for June after striking for three goals and five assists in only five games.  "I'm a little bit surprised and absolutely excited about winning the award," said Kreis. "I would be a little more pleased if the team was playing at its best right now because that means more to me than the personal achievements. I have no doubt, however, that we'll get things turned around here in the next few weeks."
7/1/99 An MRI revealed the knee injury to Burn forward Dante Washington as a tear of the medial collateral ligament. The injury, originally thought to be a sprain, was a complete tear of the ligament but will not require surgery.  "To me, it doesn't really change anything," said Washington. "I'm more concerned about the time I'll miss than whether it was torn. I think I was going to be out 6-8 weeks no matter what."  (By Keith Whitmire / The Dallas Morning News)

4/20/99 Burn sign Colombian forward John Jairo Trellez, Burn officials confirmed yesterday.  Trellez, 30, has several appearances in international matches for the Colombian National Team and should help bolster the Burn's offensive production this season.
