The Crew are a team the Burn should beat and need to beat on the road if they plan on winning the division. This was the kind of game that raises several red flags and question marks about the Burn and the immediate future of the team.

Questions Marks:

  1. Why does the Burn start every road game flat?  Why didn't they play the entire game the way they played the second half?
  2. Richard Farrer is looking very slow and was exposed often by his defense.  Finding a top flight sweeper the caliber of Lubos Kubik should be the number one priority for the Burn
  3. Oscar Pareja had a miserable game.  Again.  Where is the Pareja from last year?
  4. What is wrong with Sergi Daniv?  This is not the same player as last year.
  5. There is a serious lack of speed on this team.
  6. Why does Chad Deering coast during the regular season?  Where is the Chad Deering from the playoffs?  Why is a player of his caliber not imposing his will on the game?

On the other hand though there were some positives from the second half that can be used to build for the rest of the season.

  1. Antonio Martinez looks ready to start.
  2. Bobby Rhine played hard and looked good up top.  3rd Degree's Player of the game.  He deserves a shot up top again. (although he was partially at fault on the first goal.
  3. Jason Kreis played tremendously in the second half, more from him might be the difference maker on this team.
  4. Lazo looked strong replacing Eck, he will probably get more and more playing time as the season goes on.

Columbus

The Crew really needed this game and it showed.  The experiment with McBride in the hole and Washington and Cunningham up topped must be deemed a success.  You can see why Brian West had gotten a recent call-up to the National team.
